Public Folders and External Senders in Exchange Online

Hi,

 

We need assistance with Public Folders in Exchange Online.

We currently have the Enterprise E3 plan for Office 365.

 

We would like to replace our Shared Mailboxes with Public Folders, since it is easier to administrate and the shared mailboxes do not update in the Outlook 2013 desktop app unless forced to do so manually.

 

However, External Senders are unable to deliver mail to our single test public folder.

All internal emails to the public folder work perfectly

 

Our setup is as follows:

Exchange Online > Public Folder Mailbox created

  • Contains "Primary Hierachy"

Public Folder created > "Service Folder" > under the mailbox above

  • Mail Enabled: YES
  • SMTP Address configured: YES
  • Mail Flow Settings
    • Accept Messages from: All senders
    • Require that all senders are authenticated: False
    • Reject messages from: {}
  • ExternalEmailAddress: configured
  • RequireSenderAuthenticationEnabled: False
  • Exchange Version: 14.0.100.0
  • Folder Permissions:
    • Myself: Owner
    • Default: Contributor
    • Anonymous: Contributor

 

We would greatly appreciate any ideas or assistance you can provide.

 

I cannot find anywhere the confirms or denies whether public folders in Exchange Online are actually capable of receiving emails from external senders.
