Nearest Office 365 server to South Africa is in the UK - Exchange performance is unacceptable

Since migrating to Office 365 a couple of weeks ago, our internet line has been running at 95% capacity. Initially I thought this was caused by users taking archived mail and syncing it back to the new Office 365 servers. I started receiving complaints from most of the users who are also experiencing poor performance even when connected from home.

I did log a support ticket (SRX1206073592ID) but unfortunately this was closed as after performing all the tests over a 10MB dedicated fibre line with only a single computer connected there is actually nothing technically wrong, it is simply that the servers are too far and we now have all these concurrent connections from the users Outlook to Exchange that is throttling our internet connection.

Outlook takes forever to send, download and synchronise.

Microsoft you cannot advertise this as "Business Grade Email", since moving from a locally hosted Hosted Exchange solution there is absolutely no comparison between the performance we were accustomed to and the solution we are now stuck using.

What is even more of a concern is that all the users archived their mail before moving so the size of the mailboxes is really tiny, as the mailboxes grow the caching will also start to aggravate the situation.

I was told by Microsoft that there is a roll-out plan for additional data centres worldwide, can someone advise if South Africa is on the roadmap?
